In addition to other recordings of music by Moondog, Kurt Schwertsik, Tom Armstrong and Graham Nathan Harris, Nicola has given broadcast recitals for BBC Radio 3 and for Dutch Radio. A committed chamber musician, she has also collaborated with a number of high profile musicians, most recently with Trifarious.
Nicola is a keen advocate of contemporary music and has commissioned and premiered works by a number of contemporary composers, notably Henyrk Gorecki and HK Gruber, for which she has received critical acclaim. In 2017 she curated and performed a recital of 20th and 21st century piano music entitled Voices of Night and Day at The Warehouse Waterloo, which included five world premieres.
Nicola’s concerto and recital repertoire is wide-ranging and includes many rarely performed works. Recent projects have focused on works by composers from the Russian “Silver Age”, including music by Scriabin, Stanchinsky and Boris Pasternak. Upcoming concerts in 2025 include a performance of Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F at the Wiltshire Music Centre.
Born in Bath, Nicola started playing the piano at the age of four and gave her concerto debut at the age of thirteen. She went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music where she won numerous competitive prizes, including the Academy’s highest distinction, the Macfarren Gold Medal. Her teachers have included Hilary Coates, Hamish Milne and Andrzej Esterhazy.
